Parents filmed their toddler steering their car along what appears to be a Melbourne street in footage that has angered police.

The video, which was posted on YouTube, shows a toddler sitting on an adult’s lap, with the child allowed to steer the car alone.

“From a policing perspective, you just can’t work out why someone would do such a thing,” said Brimbank Acting Inspector Tim O’Connor to The Herald Sun of the actions of those adults in the clip.

No specific location is identified in the clip, which has now been taken down from YouTube.

Previous videos posted by the same users, who call themselves ‘The Boys From The West’, show areas  from Melbourne’s western suburbs, leading to police suspicion that that is where this video originated from, too.
