The Australian floods caught out a couple of blow-up sex doll joy riders who were left feeling deflated after they had to be rescued from Melbourne's swollen Yarra River.

Police and a State Emergency Services were mobilised when the woman, 19, slipped off her blow-up sex doll after she and her male companion hit a turbulent patch of water just past the Pound Bend Tunnel in the suburb Warrandyte North.

The woman reportedly held onto a floating tree, while the man, also 19, stayed with her.

A kayaker came to the rescue giving the pair a lifejacket each, while another passerby called the police and emergency services.

Police were less than impressed with the stunt and took the opportunity to remind the public that blow-up sex toys are "not recognised flotation devices’’.

With Queensland still mopping up after deadly floods and Victoria now threatened with inundation, police warned that such “stupid” antics diverted valuable resources from people who really needed them.

‘‘We’ve got people busy with rescues and to have to divert resources to that sort of thing is not ideal," said Senior Constable Wayne Wilson.‘‘Most rescue organisations would frown on people behaving in such a manner because there are people out there who are in genuine need of assistance.’’

The red-faced pair did not require medical attention. The not-so-floaty sex dolls are still missing in action.
