A ferry carrying mainly school students has capsized off the South Korean coast.

Several hundred people are unaccounted for and rescue teams are searching the sea, looking for the missing 290 people.

Two people have died and thirteen people that have been recovered have suffered serious injuries.

Weather conditions were described as 'fine' before the boat sank, and it is not clear what caused the accident - although witnesses described hearing an impact before the ship went down.

Dozens of ships and helicopters are searching for survivors, and the US Navy have sent a ship to assist. Navy divers have also joined in the search.
