Turkey has declared a state of emergency for three months following the recent failed army coup.

A state of emergency means the president and his cabinet don’t need to advise parliament, when preparing new laws that restrict or suspend rights and freedoms.

President Erdogan has promised to cleanse the armed forces.

So far 50,000 people have been arrested or sacked since the attempted coup.

There are currently very few restrictions on flights in and out of Turkey from the UK.
