A humanoid robot has been engineered that can jump and climb with athletic precision

Boston Dynamics, the firm behind some of the most impressive robots seen this year has revealed an anthropomorphic, bipedal robot that can climb and jump its way out of tough situations.

It's expected to compete in the next DARPA Robotics Challenge in June 2013, which is designed to test robots' ability to perform complex tasks in "dangerous, degraded, human-engineered environments."

Called PET-PROTO, this robot can make "autonomous decisions" say the agency. See it go in the video below, where it takes on ledges, holes and all sorts of other challenges.
