Australia reached lunch for 42 with Shane Watson falling just before the break.

Shane Watson and Chris Rogers did well to negotiate the swinging ball from Jimmy Anderson early-on.

Stuart Broad, at the other end, also gave Watson a good working over with some balls straightening and hitting the Sydneysider's pads.

However Watson showed some good touch driving anything remotely loose with impunity picking up six boundaries.

However Watson's habit of stepping across his stumps proved fatal once again.

It looked for all the world as if Cook was lining up Joe Root to come in for an over of spin before lunch, but he opted for Bresnan at the last minute.

The Yorkshireman had bowled consistently all morning and a straight one caught Watson planting his front leg in front of middle and off.

It looked plumb and Umpire Kumar Dharmasena's finger was duly raised. The opener reviewed it, but, with no edge, hit inline, and playing through the line it was hard to see Watson's quibble.

Hotspot showed no edge and Hawkeye showed the ball was going on to hit middle and leg.

The dismissal brings Usman Khawaja to the crease in the revolving door number three spot for the Aussies. The 26-year-old has a big reputation despite a modest average.
