Wallabies winger Digby Ioane is reporting to a Victoria Police station on Tuesday after a warrant was issued for his arrest when he failed to appear at a court date to answer a charge of unlawful assault.

Ioane, who played in Saturday’s loss to the British and Irish Lions in Brisbane, was at training for the Australian team when he missed a pre-arranged court appointment on Monday.

The alleged incident at a pub in Prahan dated back to March 9.

When Ioane didn’t show today in the Melbourne Magistrates Court , a judge issued the warrant.

The Australian Rugby Union released a statement, saying they’d been caught off guard by the incident.

"The ARU was only made aware late this afternoon of the issue involving Digby Ioane,” a statement read.

"Since being made aware through media reports, ARU has worked expeditiously with Digby Ioane and Victorian Police to attend to this matter.

"Digby will report to Victorian Police and will be issued with a revised court date."

The court date was set when Ioane was under the watch of the Queensland Reds.

The incident relates to a pub altercation involving Ioane’s brother and another man following a match against the Melbourne Rebels.

The Rebels play the Lions tomorrow ahead of the second Test in Melbourne on Saturday.

Ioane is suffering a shoulder injury and is unlikely to be fit for the match.
