Cool as a cucumber sandwich, Great Britain's Andy Murray is on his way to completing unfinished Wimbledon business after he came back from two sets down against Fernando Verdasco to win through to the semi-finals in five sets.

The Murray on court yesterday cast a bold shadow over the man who was in tears after losing to Roger Federer in last year's final - stoic despite being down 4-6, 3-6, he took the third and fourth in commanding fashion 6-1, 6-4.

Calm and collected as the huge forehanded Spaniard threw the kitchen sink at him, and with some rallies for the all-time highlights reels, it took the Scot until the penultimate game to break Verdasco's swinging serve.

Then, when serving for the win Murray was unflappable, needing just one of his three match points to take the fifth 7-5. Not the most popular British player ever with centre court crowds, Murray had fans in raptures has he reached the final four for the fifth year in a row.

"When I went behind the crowd definitely got right behind me and made a huge, huge difference," he said. "If they can be like that from the first point to the last in all of the matches, it makes a huge difference. "

I just think it's a great atmosphere to be playing in. I love it when it's like that, it was extremely noisy and they were right into it pretty much at every single point.

"That's what you remember. It's not one point really, it's more just the atmosphere of the entire match. It was good today, especially when I went behind. Towards the end there was an unbelievable atmosphere."

World number two Murray now takes on giant 22-year-old Jerzy Janowicz on Friday for a place in the final against world number one Novak Djokovic or Argentine Juan Martín del Potro.
