It was a surprise to find that the hotel named as one of the best places to stay in 2015 by Expedia and for the eight year consecutively, was effortlessly booked on our part. One call and a week later we were packed and ready to go.

The location is perfect, close to the heart of Edinburgh’s historical Old Town, yet tucked away off the main streets. The number 35 bus from the airport will take you within a one minute walk of the apartment’s front door for £1.50. It’s on Lauriston Street, just to the south west of Grassmarket where Edinburgh parties the night away, within an easy walk of the Royal Mile and Edinburgh castle for something more cultural.

There is ample parking at the rear of the building.

Fortunately for us parking wasn’t an issue, we flew from Stansted with Easyjet and have to say that both the inward and outward journey was far better than expected, excellent staff, on time flights and virtually no turbulence made for a great experience We would definitely use the company again and are looking forward to flying with them someplace else in the near future.

Beyond the front door is the reception lobby, which offers a small library of books and DVDs and a vending machine with everything from crisps and drinks to flannels and washing machine tablets. All services that we didn’t use, but still a nice touch.

The Knight Residence offers a total of 28 apartments. Guests can choose between City Apartments in the main building, and Comfort Apartments in the building next door. The City Apartments are available as studios or with one or two bedrooms, while the Comfort Apartments come with one, two or three bedrooms.

Whichever you choose, it is worth remembering that the accommodation is graded by Visit Scotland as 5 Star, but the prices are so much lower than expected.

We approached our stay at The Knight Residence with high expectations and it was great to have them exceeded on every level.
