Travel Guide: Dublin Highlights

12th Oct 2011 2:34am | By Editor

Shop, party or take time out in a peaceful park in vibrant Dublin.

Pubs and pints

Dubliners know how to have a good time and one of the highlights of visiting the city is a night out in Temple Bar. During the day walk a bit further and take a tour of the home of the black stuff at the Guinness Storehouse. Don't miss out on sipping a pint in the brewery's Gravity Bar.

Shopping

Grafton Street is home to contemporary Irish designers selling beautiful jewellery or chic clothes. Discover Dublin's more ethnic neighbourhoods near O'Connell Street or browse the markets on the cobbled streets near Temple Bar.

Literary connections

Many a well-known Irish writer has called Dublin home. Retrace the steps of James Joyce, Samuel Beckett and Oscar Wilde on a literary tour of the city or walk the hallowed halls of Trinity College.

Peaceful green spaces

If the bustle of Ireland's capital becomes too much, take time out in St Stephen's Green and Merrion's Square. Stroll along the Liffey river and take in the views from Dublin's bridges.

Craic and ceilidhs

Inspired by Riverdance? Want to see the Irish fiddle in action? Most pubs have live music nights but for the real thing, head to the Irish Cultural Institute in Monkstown, easily accessible by the DART train service.

St Patrick's Festival

Thousands of revellers dressed in green swarm Dublin's streets on March 17 in honour of Ireland's patron saint. It's one big party not to be missed.
