Travel Guide: Cyprus Food and Drink

3rd Jun 2014 6:37am | By Editor

Hook into doner kebabs and cold Efes.

Kebabs and barbecued meat is the speciality of the island, but local fish dishes are also delicious, fresh from the Mediterranean.

Other regional delicacies include smoked meats and cheeses.

For a romantic dinner or just a great feed with your friends, head for the stunning hilltop location of the Tochni Tavern in Tochni village, 20km east of Limassol.

From the outdoor terrace table, you can see the pretty stone-built village, across the valley and out to sea. There's a friendly, rustic mood and food to match - smoky steaks and kebabs, delicious fried Cyprus potatoes and horiatiki salad.

Wash down a feed with a cold Efes, the local beer.

The mind-blowing local spirit Zivania will tempt you in the local shops and markets. Be warned - get leathered on Zivania and you won't know what's hit you!

It's okay to drink the tap water though most travelers prefer the taste of bottled water, which is sold cheap in supermarkets across the island.

There is an abundance of bars and restaurants on the island, with many to chose from in both Paphos and Limassol.
