Madagascar is the last place in the world where you will go hungry.


If you like seafood, you are in paradise. Lobster, prawns, squid and fresh fish are in abundance and really cheap.

Restaurants offer European meat dishes as well as pastas and pizzas.

The locals use rice as their staple diet and add to it beef, chicken, duck, fish or vegetable. They also love stews, such as beef or pork stew.


Three Horses Beer is the national beer in Madagascar and extremely popular.

The local rum is flavoured with fruit and lethal of you cannot stomach a good hangover.

South African wines is available in most restaurants and French wines in upmarket restaurants.


All water should be regarded as being potentially contaminated. Water used for drinking, brushing teeth or making ice should have first been boiled or otherwise sterilised.
