El Salvador

Sadly, Central America’s tiniest state suffers a lingering image hangover from its terrible civil war in the 1980s. El Salvador is one for the purists, but the rewards are great: friendly hospitality, fab surfing, volcanoes, national parks and pupusas — a waistline-bulging national dish to rival all others. To avoid the crowds travel  ... err ... any day really. September-October is notoriously wet.
