Once enlivened by having an ‘S’ in front of its name, Nottingham has had to rely on the legend of Robin Hood for interest since. If the infamous outlaw did exist, then he presumably battled with the sheriff at the city’s castle (although it was replaced by a large house in 1674), and Sherwood Forest was where he robbed the rich to give to the poor.
