With its rolling limestone hills, thatched cottages and manor houses, this is true jigsaw puzzle territory. Most of the villages remain so rustic-looking it’s hard to believe they’re functional. Chipping Camden and Northleach are highlights and often busy as a result. Less crowded but equally appealing is Stow-on-the-Wold.
