Transport in Argentina, South America

Argentina’s bus network is one of the best on the continent

Getting There

As a continental hub, getting to Argentina is fairly easy. Buenos Aires is served by direct flights from Europe and the US, with many more flights connecting through Sao Paulo and Santiago.

Getting Around

Argentina’s internal transport network is well developed and offers a variety of ways to explore the country.

FLY

If you’re looking to do a whistle-stop tour you’ll probably end up flying. Local airlines like LAN often offer multi-flight deals, taking in the major tourist destinations of Ushuaia, Iguazu, Bariloche and Mendoza.

Bus

If you have a tighter budget and more time on your hands, Argentina’s bus network is one of the best on the continent, with a variety of bus companies connecting all major cities and towns. Alongside standard buses are first class services offering seats that recline horizontal and onboard meals – perfect for those 24 hour bus marathons.

Drive

Driving is possible, and offers a good way of exploring around major centres. Roads are generally good, though local driving can leave a lot to be desired. Driving within Buenos Aires for the brave or foolhardy only! Better to catch one of the city’s licensed cabs.

Public Transport

Large cities like Buenos Aries have tram and bus networks. They can be confusing, so check with local tourist information services.

Cycling

Cycling is a popular way of seeing the countryside, though distances are vast, and headwinds in Patagonia can be fierce.
