Hey y’all, why dontcha grab those rhinestone-studded boots, tip your hat and get ready to drawl something in your best Southern twang about this not being your first rodeo?
No-one will get pissed off, as you’ll be at a safe distance from the US, celebrating all things American in Gateshead at the festival described as the ‘gumbo of American roots music.’
Why: The festival is primarily devoted to traditional music from across the water, so expect plenty of folk, blues, classic country, Nashville gospel and more. Martha Wainwright is headlining, and The McCrary Sisters, the Heritage Blues Orchestra and Mud Morganfield are also playing.
Do it because: Once you’ve got your fill of foot-stomping guitar licks and horn solos, get stuck into the street food stalls, or spend a bit of time enjoying the rest of Newcastle and Gateshead with the likes of riverboat trips and film screenings.
