It is believed that the shooter, reported to be the father of one of the children at Sandy Hook Elementary School where the massacre took place, is also dead.
Local newspaper The Hartford Courant said ‘an entire classrom was unaccounted for’.
Reports suggest the shooting took place in the nursery classroom of the school.
Initially local sources suggested there may have been two shooters, although this appears to have been ruled out.
The school was evacuated.
