At least this time she was up for categories her music fits into at the ceremony in Glasgow after winning the rock video award at the US equivalent.
She missed out on Best Alternative which went to Jarred Leto’s rockers Thirty Seconds to Mars.
The Best Push Act, whatever that means, went to Aussie pop-punk boyband 5 Seconds of Summer.
One Direction won best pop act among their three gongs, Katy Perry and Australian punk-poppers 5 Seconds of Summer won two each and (cough, cough) Justin Bieber won best male artist. None of them were bothered enough to turn up though.
Beyonce was due to perform. But didn’t. Scottish DJ Calvin Harris was sick, so didn’t show either.
Nicki Minaj did though, as did Ed Sheeran, Alicia Keys, Enrique Iglesias and U2. And David Hasselhoff – who is inconceivably huge in Germany – got one of the night’s biggest cheers when he took the stage in a kilt.
Lorde didn’t leave empty handed though, she won the Best New Zealand Act … at the European MTV awards? Ok…
