Winners of the Mercury Music Prize in 1998 with their debut, Gomez have spent the past seven or eight years fighting against marginalisation at home while building a following in the US (thanks in part to fan/patron Dave Matthews).
But throughout their travails they haven’t really changed too much.
Album number six is another slightly uneasy mix of campfire rock and singer-songwriter earnestness, rich in rootsy guitar work but lacking in memorable tunes. WILL FULFORD-JONES
