Kate Thomas
Kate was destined to be involved music, having been raised in a family of musicians. She had her first singing job in a restaurant, where she stood on a chair singing Italian Opera. However Kate wanted to do something different. So she studied Drama at East 15 and was soon being cast in a number of theatre roles. Her career took a twist, as she started being cast as the singer in shows. After a few times, Kate decided, she may as well just sing. So she started on the Cabaret circuit with a Gypsy Folk band, the Portraits. They toured the UK and France and played in venues such as Ronnie Scotts. After a while she joined the Cavendish Set, being their lead singer. She was with them for a few years and also studied Jazz, before going solo and becoming a singer songwriter. She has amalgamated all her musical experience in her songs and comes out with a type of folk rock/indie sound. You can regularly see her playing in London. This week she will be performing at Floripa London in Shoreditch on Thursday 28 May, entrance is free and Kate will be joined by some very talented friends. For bookings email info@floripalondon.com
Amy Jane Bennett
Eureka Live is back on the first Wednesday of the month, 3 June at Trapeze Bar. This month’s feature artist is Amy Bennett. She came along for the open mic night a few months ago and was so good, she was invited back. Amy started singing at the age of 10 and was writing music by 15. She launched her solo gigging career at the age of 18. Everyday things inspire her in her songs, it may be an event, or a comment and a story is created from this and forms into a song. Amy says ‘My songs are about life, love, friends… without sounding too cliche!’ Although she is dynamic in her style of music it leans more towards an indie acoustic feel. Amy is one of those musicians that quietly take the stage, but very quickly builds a rapport with the audience, including them like they are old friends. She is a very comfortable performer and all round entertainer. Check out some of her music via her face book pages ‘Amy Jane Bennett’ or better still email jointhecircus@trapezebar.com and come down to watch her perform along with some other great performers at the open mic night that occurs right before she sings her set.
