The AEC has been investigating the voting issues that the election faced, and has said that many of the mistakes created by the system were caused by ‘official error’.
Acting Electoral Commissioner Tom Rogers has suggested that the voting process may have been hindered by people who had a poor grasp of the voting process, and his organisation is looking at 2,000 other cases.
As quoted on the ABC Australia website, Mr Rogers said that ‘over 81%’ of these people were elderly, struggled with basic literacy, or didn’t really understand how to vote.
He confirmed that other cases of multiple voting were being looked into with the help of the Australian Federal Police and Director of Public Prosecutions.
