Chris Wood (Navigator)

A handful of recent BBC Folk Awards have given Chris Wood a higher profile than ever; a good time, then, for this two-disc, career-spanning retrospective.

Wood is a fine songwriter and an even better singer; witness his recent Summerfield Avenue.

But he made his name as a fiddle player of rare tenderness and empathy; look no further than the tracks from the peerless Knock John LP he made with accordionist Andy Cutting in the mid-’90s.

Highly recommended.
