The links between Irish folk and Latin music have not often been explored, which makes this album about a group of Irish-American soldiers who switched sides during the US-Mexico war of the 1840s an intriguing proposition.
It sounds as you would expect, thrumming guitars providing a backdrop for trilling tin whistles and dinky harp melodies.
The songs with vocalists (Cooder, Linda Ronstadt) come out ahead in this unusual battle of the bands.
