With its soaring, spacious ballads and luscious walls of sound The Courteneer’s Falcon is a long way from the plodding Britpop of their first LP St Jude.
Yet band leader Liam Fray continues to punch above his weight, striving for the Arctic Monkeys’ “everyman” shtick without the lyrical smarts or the innovative songcraft to back it up.
Oddly, the most striking thing on this album is You Overdid It Doll, a song that sounds like a Chris Rea offcut.
