Amy Winehouse has cancelled two music festival appearances after a shambolic, drunken performance in Belgrade which earned her boos from the audience.

The troubled singer has pulled out of this week’s Kucuk Ciftlik Park festival in Istanbul, Turkey, and the Ejekt festival in Athens, Greece as she "cannot perform to the best of her ability", her spokesman said.

"Despite feeling sure that she wanted to fulfil these commitments, she has agreed with management that she cannot perform to the best of her ability and will return home."

"She would like to apologise to fans expecting to see her at the shows but feels that this is the right thing to do."

Winehouse’s European tour got off to a bad start at Belgrade's Fortress last night when she staggered on stage and struggled to complete her set as she mumbled incoherently through songs.

The 20,000 strong crowd were less than impressed, many of whom loudly booed and jeered her.
