The African National Congress national headquarters on Saturday dismissed radio reports that North West premier Edna Molewa would be recalled.
“What we want to say as the ANC is that rumours of the recall of comrade Edna Molewa are devoid of truth. There is nothing true in that,” said spokesman Brian Sokutu.
On Saturday, SABC radio reported that Molewa was to be recalled from her position following a ten-hour meeting of the provincial executive committee.
The radio report said the PEC decided that Molewa would be informed on Monday while the go-ahead was being sought from Luthuli house.
“There is nothing official from Luthuli House,” said Sokutu.
He also said the national ANC had no information about radio reports that certain sub-regions of the ANC had split in the Eastern Cape.
“We do not know of any split in the Eastern Cape or in the country and therefore we cannot confirm those rumours,” said Sokutu.
SABC radio reported on Saturday that four sub-regions of the Chris Hani sub-district were to establish a new party called the African Democratic Congress.
The radio report also said that a meeting in the Amahlathi sub-region in Stutterheim was disrupted after an ANC parallel structure moved a vote of no confidence in sub-regional leadership.
About 18 branches then walked out of the meeting, said SABC.
At the beginning of October, Free State Premier Beatrice Marshoff was advised to leave her post by provincial party officials.
Provincial ANC secretary Sbongile Besani said on Oct 1 that provincial officials and the premier had met to discuss an ANC resolution that she must be redeployed.
At the end of September the ANC in Limpopo and the province’s premier Sello Moloto rejected speculation that he was to be replaced.
“We have said that premier Moloto must be allowed to finish his terms,” said ANC spokesman in Limpopo Ishmael Kgetjepe at the time.
