In an ceremony marred by gaffes and disorganisation, folky brother/sister duo Angus and Julia Stone were the big winners at the Aria Awards on Sunday night, collecting Album Of The Year for Down The Way and Single Of The Year for Big Jet Plane.
Glitches at the event, televised by Channel 10, included Jessica Mauboy’s mis-pronunciation of debut as “de-butt” and Bernard Fanning going AWOL when his band Powderfinger were receiving an award.
Other winners were Brisbane newcomer Megan Washington, who took home gongs for Best Female Artist and Breakthrough Artist for her “de-butt” album I Believe You Liar, and The Temper Trap who won Best Group and Most Popular Australian Single for Sweet Disposition.
Kooky songstress Sia won Best Independent Album for We Are Born, and Powderfinger took home pointy trophiesfor Most Popular Australian Album and Most Popular Australian Artist for their most recent and final LP, Golden Rule.
