Anthony Mundine acheived his first knockout in nearly three years to move closer to a world title bout in a third weight division after stoping Ryan Waters 24 seconds into Round 10 of their WBA light-middleweight world title eliminator in Wollongong last night.
It was the 25th knockout in Mundine’s 44-fight career but only his first since he stopped Jose Alberto Clavero in December 2007.
The two-time WBA super-middleweight champion has since had 10 fights and moved down two weight divisions, claiming the IBO middleweight title but failing to win by knockout until he dropped Waters last night.
“I told youse,” Mundine said afterwards. “I am going to get stronger. I worked hard for this fight, I got my weight down and I feel stronger.”
