The Gunners are hoping to land the unsettled United and England striker as it seems that the north London club’s quest to bring back former Gunners captain Cesc Fabregas is unlikely to come off.
Wayne Rooney has said that he feels ‘angered and confused’ at Manchester United and his desire to seek a move elsewhere to reignite his career has long been the focus of media speculation.
Chelsea have confirmed in a statement their interest, as well as rebuffing media suggestions that a possible deal had involved a cash fee as well as the transfer of either David Luiz or Juan Mata.
“Chelsea can confirm that it made a written offer to Manchester United for the transfer of Wayne Rooney,” a club spokesman said, adding, “the proposed purchase does not include the transfer or loan of any players from Chelsea or Manchester United.”
