It feel as if the momentum is all with Australia in this series all of a sudden. From the desperation tactics of a team that saw itself as the underdogs –  Agar etc., – Australia have now found belief in the team they should’ve started the series with.

Bird came in and bowled beautifully; his jaffer to dismiss the England captain Alastair Cook surely one of the balls of the series. And Nathan Lyon too, a man who, even this morning, after dismissing Trott, Pietersen, Bairstow and Prior, is being talked about dismissively on the BBC.

England came into the series high on confidence, and it was confidence that carried them through those first two Tests.

With their confidence now shaken and Australia having found evidence that they are more than an equal for this England team, the Baggy Greens shouldn’t think they’ve got a chance to tie the series, they can afford to believe they will do.
