It was “like all my Christmases came at once” the paper’s news editor Matt Cunningham told sister website, news.com.au, about the moment he realised they had a veritable hoard of ancient reptile-related yarns at their disposal.
The crocs featured are seen by a fisherman eating a cow, being hunted in a suburban lake, at a supermarket in a sandpit being wrestled by police after it bit a dog (pictured above), forcing the closure of a public swimming hole and meeting (not eating) an Olympic hockey star, Joel Carroll.
The pick of the headlines in the newspaper surely running out of crocalicious puns is “Croc has beef with cow”, naturally.
Cunningham’s sketch of the front page design for his layout sub will go down as an Aussie newspaper classic – time to introduce a Walkley for layout.
