The free Spector app allows passengers to tag inspectors as either uniformed or plain clothes, and flag up their location, too. They can then share this information with other passengers via GPS.
Despite the potential uses this new app has for circumventing the revenue protection officers, the app’s designer, 24-year-old Melbourne-based George McKibbin, maintains that it is for passenger safety only.
“We’re primarily focussed on safety and commuter enjoyment. You can also tag angry or drunk or threatening commuters so people can avoid those trams of buses,” he said.
And manage to keep a little extra cash in your pocket, too, for those who decide to use it in that manner.
