The long-running Aussie soap which airs here on Channel 5 was last in the UK in 2001 when Donald Fisher (Norman Coburn) came to launch his book, while Irene Roberts (Lynne McGranger), Marilyn Chambers (Emily Symons), Hayley Smith (Bec Cartwright, now Hewitt) and Nick Smith (Chris Egan) also joined him.
The Channel Seven show also filmed in 1998 in Ironbridge, Shropshire.
Series Producer Lucy Addario said: “We are thrilled that Home and Away will be returning to London to shoot this exciting storyline. It’s also a wonderful opportunity to bring the heart and soul of Summer Bay to the home of our loyal UK audience.”
Home and Away is aired in 105 countries, but the UK is by far its most loyal audience outside Oz.
The show’s official website has given a cryptic clue as to the possible plot line: “A number of central characters faced with a challenge – do they let go of what is most important in their lives or do they put up a desperate fight to hold onto people they love?”
Take from that what you like from that. Channel 5’s Greg Barnett is excited, to say the least.
“Although we can’t reveal much about the storyline at present, I can promise fans this is going to be one not to miss,” the commissioning editor said.
“It’s great to have the show filming these very special episodes in the UK, and as a huge fan myself I’m very, very excited!”
