Gail Danielli administered the life saving treatment to Denis the Pigeon when he stopped breathing.

Ms Daniell, a volunteer with Fauna Rescue SA (a voluntary, not-for-profit organisation that helps to care for sick animals), had been caring for the frail pigeon for four days.

“Denis just stopped breathing and I didn’t even think twice – I just started CPR,” Ms Daniell told Adelaide Now of her life-saving exploits.

“I gave him probably three or four little breaths and pumped his chest a few times and he started to come back to life.”

Ms Daniell has looked after 50 animals over the last six years.

Her tale of above-and-beyond commitment has won plaudits from animal lovers the world over, and reminded us at TNT of another animal lover who went that extra yard to save an animal’s life, specifically licking a monkey’s anus for an hour in order to dislodge a peanut.

Not to undermine Ms Daniell’s sterling work by turning this story into a would you rather, but that’s what we’d like to know.

Would you rather lick a monkey’s butt or give a pigeon CPR? Or would you let them both die?
