According to reports from a beach north of Batesman Bay, the surface skimming cetacean accidentally crashed into birthday boy John Wolfson on Monday morning.
Celebrating his 27th, and what he feared was his last, birthday, Wolfson was knocked off his body board by the impact of the frolicking Flipper and feared that he had suffered a broken rib.
His guess was spot on. After being towed ashore by his mates, paramedics got him to hospital by road and air and he was found to have suffered two fractured ribs.
It could have been worse, he told the Telegraph, reckoning, “If it had hit me in the chest or in the groin I think I would have been critical. I think it could have killed me for sure.”
