Australia were cruising in their chase of a strong 5-191, set care of an impressive solo effort from Umar Akmal (94 off 54 balls) with support from his brother Kamran’s run a ball 31.
In the chase, Glenn Maxwell’s spectacular knock of 74 from 33 balls set the favourites on course for victory, but with his wicket went all of the Aussies’ composure. And with that, the match.
Aaron Finch was handed the mantle to see them home, but when he fell for 65 off a slow by his standards 54 balls, no one in the line-up stood up.
Outside Finch and Maxwell, no Aussie batsman made more than 10 and extras were the third top scorer.
In the end they fell short by 16 runs, making all their remaining matches must-win if they’re to make it through to the semis.
