In Sydney, this year’s is the coldest summer since 1960, while two weeks ago Brisbane recorded its coldest December day for 123 years.
The poor weather has been blamed for a slump in Christmas shopping as well as a drop in clothing sales.
Shops have been forced to slash prices in order to attract customers and, according to the Telegraph, surfwear company Billabong expects its profits to drop by up to 26 per cent.
However the chilly weather didn’t stop swimmers taking part in the annual Bondi to Bronte Ocean Swim at Bondi Beach on December 4 (above).
In the UK, a white Christmas is seeming unlikely as temperatures rise across the country. Although the Met has issued warnings of snow for some areas of Scotland, for most people this week will be damp and grey.
