The Australian Woman of the Year in the UK will be awarded next month and you have a chance to put forward your candidate.

Nominations are being accepted so if you know an Aussie woman who’s done great things, put her name into the mix here. The closing date is Feb 12, 2010.

Coinciding with the International Women’s Day, the award is open to Australian women from all walks of life including business, the arts, science, community, government, research and other industries.

The 2009 award was given to Gill Hicks who lost both of her legs in the London bombings in 2005. She now campaigns for peace and justice through the establishment of a non-profit organisation called M.A.D. for Peace (M.A.D – Making a Difference).

This organisation aims to help spread the word that conflict can be avoided through the actions of individuals at a community level.

This year’s award ceremony will take place on Wednesday, March 3, 2010, from 6.30pm to 8.30pm at the Langham Hotel, London.

The 2010 event is being managed by Australian Business and sponsored by Qantas, Advance and the Australian High Commission in London.
