Snow-wise, the second half of the season belongs to Austria and there’s more to come at the end of the week, when another of those cold, snowy weather fronts drops down from the north. This is the place to go if you’re after powder at the moment.

In many resorts, it was snowing at the weekend, too.

Lech, in the west of the country, reported a 10cm top-up on Sunday, and settled snow depths of between 160 and 225cm, depending on altitude and aspect. The sun is expected for three days now, and spring temperatures too (up to +5C) so the lower slopes will be a bit slushy each afternoon, and icy the following morning. More snow is expected on Thursday, and a precipitate drop in temperatures – down to -6C during the day. Expect similar conditions in neighbouring St Anton (80/320cm).

Further east, the Wilderkaiser, which encompasses the resort of Söll, there was a 2cm top-up overnight, and the snowpack is 240cm on the top runs and 110cm lower down which is, frankly, awesome for mid-March. Cloudy weather is expected here, which means flat light, but at least it will keep the snow in good nick. Top temperature on Monday will be +3C, and fresh snow is expected to start falling on Wednesday evening, continuing into Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
