The UK’s average hotel room rate  increased by 4% in 2015, boosted by major international events such as the Rugby World Cup in the autumn according to the latest Hotel Price Index™ (HPI™).

Conversely, given the influx of tourism over the past years, visitors will be glad to know that London room rates have seen a price decrease (-1%) since the previous year.

Despite the national increase, 32 of the 40 most popular UK destinations recorded more affordable averages of £100 or less a night in 2015. Renowned British favourites such as the Isle of Wight (£79), the Lake District (£91) and the Cotswolds (£100) fell into this category.

Evidence of the impact of the falling price of petrol at the pump can be seen in the average paid for accommodation in the North Sea oil capital of Aberdeen in 2015, which fell considerably (25%). Edinburgh also saw a slight decrease by 2%. However popular Scottish city Glasgow did not follow trend and saw a modest average increase of 2%.

Despite a year-on-year increase of 5% in its hotel prices, overall the seaside mecca of Blackpool was found to offer the best value for money in the UK among the most popular destinations with an average price of £64, followed by several Midlands cities: step forward Coventry (£68), Derby (£69) and Leicester (£71).

On a global scale, average prices paid per night for hotel accommodation were up 1% in 2015 compared to 2014.
