The victims, whose bodies were found with serious injuries on Monday, have been named as David Miller, 24, and Hannah Witheridge, 23..
Sky News said police had cordoned off the beach and shut down ferry routes to and from the mainland, while the London Evening Standard reported that the female victim is believed to have been raped before she was killed.
Thai police believe the pair were attacked with a hoe.
“We have been contacted by the British Embassy concerning the reported death of a 24-year-old Jerseyman in Thailand,” States of Jersey police said. “We are currently co-operating with both the Thai and British Authorities who will be leading the investigation.”
Several news reports on Tuesday suggested that police are searching for migrant workers in the hunt for killer.
They also released still images from CCTV footage in the area, one of which shows what police said were the two victims walking hand-in-hand.
