The scene Separated into areas with their own distinct feel and design – for example, ‘La Boca Barrio’ is a dancefloor set against a recreation of a colourful street in the Buenos Aires neighbourhood, while the ‘Timber Yard’ offers booths constructed from higgledy-piggledy painted planks of wood – stepping into this place is like being handed an instant sunny holiday.
The grub A selection of Latin American street food. The ceviche, served in shot glasses, is particularly good – cubes of sea bass are lent an irresistible blend of refreshing zing (via lime juice) and invigorating fire (thank the yellow chilli).
Behind the bar Original Barrio cocktails are divided into ‘new releases’, ‘remixes’ (classics given a Barrio twist) and ‘greatest hits’ (the best of Barrio cocktails past).
The menu warned the Ron Mocha Boca could result in scenes of a sexual nature, and it wasn’t kidding – a boozy milkshake blending Santa Teresa Añejo rum, marzipan, coffee and cream, it made me moan in ecstasy. Loudly.
