The 80s are often derided as a decade when style and music took a turn for the cringe.
However, it’s fast becoming apparent, that actually, the 80s were a golden age for pop music and style.
Pop music was a rich and diverse landscape, universally popular, not just the corportised tween industry is it now, and yeah, sure there were some mistakes, but at least the 80s tried some new in the style stakes.
Unlike today, when the newest trend is invariably some rehash of one that’s gone before.
When it comes to music released in 1983, vs music released this year, it’s easy to see who comes out on top.
1983
The Cure – The Lovecats
Talking Heads – Burning Down The House
Total Eclipse of the Heart – Bonny Tyler
