He was taken ill at home in South West London on Tuesday, and his family rushed him to hospital, reports The Sun.

According to his colleagues Marr had been at work on Radio 4’s Start The Week the day before and seemed “fine”. A friend of Marr’s said the fact he is speaking was “encouraging” but his recovery was “at a very early stage”.

A source added: “Doctors aren’t sure how serious the stroke was. It can take a few days to see if it will have a lasting effect.”

Bosses said: “The whole BBC wishes him a speedy recovery.” and presenter Jonathan Dimbleby added: “I’m very shocked. I just hope it’s very mild and that he recovers from it swiftly.”
