A trailer for Beastie Boys’ Fight For Your Right Revisited short – starring Jack Black, will Ferrell, Seth Rogan and Elijah Wood – dropped yesterday, the same day as the first single from the band’s new album, Hot Sauce Committee Pt. 2, was released.

Fight For Your Right Revisited tells the story of what happened to the Beastie Boys before and after their 1987 smash single (You Gotta) Fight for Your Right (to Party) came out and changed their lives forever.

It’s testament to the Beasties’ iconic status that such a fleet of Hollywood stars were clamouring to appear in the band’s new short which premieres at the Sundance Film Festival.

In Fight For Your Right Revisited, Elijah Wood, Danny McBride, Seth Rogen, Will Ferrell, John C. Reilly, and Jack Black play older and younger versions of Beastie Boys Mike D, Ad-Rock, and MCA.

The two versions – old and young – then battle it out for street cred, with Ferrell challenging: “We bring a super-fresh, old-school throwdown dance contest from the future.”

Fight For Your Right Revisited begins at the end of the original ’87 video, with the Beasties crawling out of the party in a cloud of smoke. On heading downstairs, the boys have a run-in with the parents of the kids whose party they crashed. Then there’s loads of swearing, smashed windows, sprayed beer and general mayhem.

The film also has appearances from Susan Sarandon, Stanley Tucci, Jason Schwartzman, Rainn Wilson, Rashida Jones, Ted Danson, Steve Buscemi, Stanley Tucci, Chloë Sevigny, and Will Arnett.

And those are just the celebs who appear in the trailer. The movie itself will also feature cameos from Kirsten Dunst, Martin Starr, Laura Dern, David Cross, and Zach Galifianakis.

Phew!

While Eric Auld wrote: “OMG this is so awesome! Fight For Your Right – Revisited.”

The full video is set to premiere “soon,” according to the trailer, while the Beaties’ new album Hot Sauce Committee Part Two will be out on May 3.

In the meantime, the band yesterday released the first track from the album, Make Some Noise.

The Beastie Boys have been under the radar for the last 10 years, despite releasing an album – To the Five Boroughs – in 2004. The band have had a number of problems, not least Adam Yauch battling (and overcoming) cancer.

Welcome back Beasties!
