Beyonce will headline at this year’s Glastonbury, headlining the festival with a 90-minute set on the Sunday night.

Confirming rumours, a statement said that Beyonce will perform on the famous pyramid stage as she plays out the 2011 festival on June 26.

In an official statement Beyonce said: “This really is the biggest festival in the world and I cannot wait to perform there.

“I’m pumped just thinking about that huge audience and soaking up their energy.”

Following in her husband, Jay-Z’s steps, the former Destiny’s Child singer will close Glastonbury with a 90 minute set on the main stage.

This year’s event is already sold out, possibly due to the fact that there will be no festival in 2012 because of the Olympic Games.

Beyonce at Glastonbury – the rumours

Organisers traditionally keep the line-up of the UK’s biggest music festival top secret until the last minute but U2 are expected to join Beyonce as big-name acts.

Last year the Irish band pulled out at the last minute after Bono had to undergo emergency surgery on his back.

Beyonce is no stranger to Glastonbury after braving the mud to watch her husband, Jay-Z’s, headline performance at the event in 2008.

Jay-Z’s inclusion in the festival, which historically showcased rock music, divided opinion.
