But Kiwi music lovers can rejoice because the Big Day Out is returning to Auckland in 2014.
In 2012 the Big Day Out organisers announced it would be the final time Auckland would be included on the Australasian tour. However, it was announced today they will bring back the event for 2014.
Event promoter Campbell Smith told The New Zealand Herald it will return next year to a new venue: Western Springs.
Smith says that the festival was always going to return to New Zealand, it just needed to be financially viable.
“We started thinking about how it would be possible to do a show here, and pull a show off here in New Zealand that made sense”, Smith explained.
“I think we want to try and build a show here that is made for NZ so it’s not simply going to be the sixth Australian Big Day Out, it’s going to be a show that we are going to curate for this market.”
Last year only the BDO headliners, Red Hot Chili Peppers flew over to Auckland to perform.
