Just when we thought it was safe, 22 years after Billy Ray Cyrus’ abomination Achy Breaky Heart, the country singer has teamed up with rapper Buck 22 to resurrect the 1992 hit single and only famous track Cyrus ever released.
The rapper spits about being abducted by sexy female aliens and generally having a good time aboard a spacecraft, while an EDM version of the original hook from Achy Breaky Heart plays in the background despite the fact that Cyrus is pretending to play the guitar.
As if the pairing and the song itself weren’t bizarre enough, the video takes it to a whole new level, featuring virtually naked and twerking alien women who just wanna party with Buck 22 and Cyrus.
To add to all this confusion, talk show host Larry King makes an appearance as well, announcing to viewers that there has been an “unidentified flying object seen transcending over Europe”, while Cyrus makes references to his own daughter Miley Cyrus by randomly shouting out “wrecking ball!”
Unlike Miley, however, Buck 22 comes from an impressive musical pedigree as the son of veteran R&B singer Dionne Warwick and jazz drummer Bill Elliott, which makes his latest duet all the weirder. Explaining how he got the idea to rework Achy Breaky Heart, the rapper explained in a statement, “I asked [Cyrus] if he would mind if I could take a crack at remaking Achy Breaky Heart and he looked at me for a moment and said, ‘Lots of people have tried already, but go for it’. He didn’t have a clue that I had already gone into the lab and cooked up a demo of what I thought would be a fun EDM/hip hop style version, which at the time only had a sample from the original of his voice. He liked what he heard and, weeks later, arrived at the session to record this track.”
