The French aviation giant has submitted a patent in Europe for a new seat (it looks like a bicycle seat!) that has been stripped bare – there’s no tray table, no headrest, hardly any leg room and it’s fastened to a vertical bar.

Why have they done it? Profits. The seat has been designed to allow airlines to squeeze more passengers on-board.

“In effect, to increase the number of cabin seats, the space allotted to each passenger must be reduced,” the patent application states.

Airbus does acknowledge it would be uncomfortable and so would limit its application to short haul flights. How nice?

Let’s hope this doesn’t come to fruition.
